Simeen Farhat
Whirling & Swirling
La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art
Bahrain
11 March - 30 April
La Fontaine, in collaboration with Xerxes Art, will host the first solo show of the works of Simeen Farhat in the Middle East.
Simeen Farhat is an internationally renowned Pakistan born artist and academic. Her works have been exhibited in galleries and at museums in the U.S.A., the U.K., Europe, the U.A.E and Pakistan, and are found in prominent public and private collections world- wide.
Farhat’s works examine the Occident's relationship to and perceptions of the East, and also address the epidemic of violence against women. Her sculptures are aesthetic as well as philosophical, using the amenable forms of the Arabic script as installations, and eliciting linguistic power through allegorical references to Persian and Urdu poetry.

Xerxes Art
Xerxes Art was the first gallery outside of the Middle East to solely exhibit the contemporary visual arts of Iran and of the World of Islam, and remains the only mainstream gallery outside of the Middle East to focus solely on the contemporary visual arts of the broader World of Islam including those of Afghanistan, the Arab World, Bangladesh, Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.
Xerxes represents a noted roster of artists, works mainly in the primary market and concentrates on solo or themed exhibitions by both established and emerging artists. In addition, Xerxes offers art advisory and curatorial services to private, corporate and institutional collections and collectors.
Xerxes' mission is primarily cultural, as opposed to purely commercial, and as such the gallery can use the entirety of its proceeds and funds to promote the contemporary visual arts of the World of Islam in prominent international fora.

La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art
La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art is housed in a historic building in the heart of Manama, incorporating an art gallery, gourmet restaurant, conference centre, spa and Pilates studio. Built 150 years ago, this private former home was restored by famed French architect Jean Marc Sinan, and today fuses Gulf Islamic architecture with contemporary design.
The traditional residential design, comprising a series of rooms around a central courtyard, lends itself well to a gallery, with its high ceilings and expanse of wall space perfectly displaying works of modern and contemporary art by noted international artists. La Fontaine hosts, promotes and sponsors art exhibitions in its gallery space. In addition, La Fontaine holds a variety of performances in its distinctive open air Moon Courtyard, including concerts, operas, theatre, art films and lectures.
