About Xerxes Art
Xerxes Art was the first gallery outside of the Middle East to solely exhibit the contemporary visual arts of Iran and of the World of Islam, and remains the only mainstream gallery outside of the Middle East to focus solely on the contemporary visual arts of the World of Islam including those of Afghanistan, the Arab World, Bangladesh, Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. Xerxes represents a noted roster of artists, works mainly in the primary market and concentrates on solo or themed exhibitions by both established and emerging artists. In addition, Xerxes offers art advisory and curatorial services to private, corporate and institutional collections and collectors. Xerxes' mission is primarily cultural, as opposed to purely commercial, and as such the gallery uses the entirety of its proceeds and funds to promote the contemporary visual arts of the World of Islam in prominent international fora.

About Al Serkal Cultural Foundation - Heritage House
Al Serkal Cultural Foundation is a Dubai based non profit organisation founded and endowed by the Al Serkal family and by Ahmad Al Serkal. The Foundation’s objectives are to preserve and promote Emirati art, culture and heritage, and also to introduce international art and culture to the Emirates. Heritage House, one of the largest and most architecturally significant structures in Bastakiya’s Heritage Village, is part of the Foundation and hosts many of the Foundation’s events and exhibitions.
Bastakiya is an old residential area in Dubai, and is named after the residents of the area, most of whom were originally emigrants from the Bastak area of Iran. Al Bastakiya lies within the Dubai Creek area of Bur Dubai and its restored buildings with their tall wind towers, narrow roads and gypsum adorned embellishments and carpentry are all reminiscent of old Dubai .
Défilé
Zarif Designs by Zolaykha Sherzad

DUBAI. NMArt Gallery and Xerxes Art will host a défilé and sale of the 2011 collection of Zarif Designs.
Zarif creates exclusive fashions for women and men, fusing Afghan designs with contemporary Western fashion. The line uses traditional Afghan craftsmanship, patterns, fabrics and embroidery and is produced by hand in Kabul.
Zarif, which means "fine" or "delicate" in Persian, was started in 2005 by Zolaykha Sherzad, a widely exhibited Afghan born and New York based artist. In addition to wanting to resurrect traditional Afghan craftsmanship long neglected by decades of occupation, oppression and civil war, Sherzad also wants Zarif to become an avenue for Afghan women’s emancipation, independence and economic development.
Zolaykha Sherzad is a gallery artist of Xerxes Art and will have her works exhibited as part of Common Threads: Contemporary Art From Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran and Pakistan, a group show curated by Maliha Bhutto Rahimtoola, Nyla Qayoom Noorani and Xerxes Art. The exhibition showcases the similarities and differences of the art from a populace which shares the commonality of ethnicity, linguistic roots and religion and features works by Afsoon, Ali Adjalli, Anila Quayyum Agha, Jamal Ahmed, Imran Channa, Nizakat Ali Depar, Simeen Farhat, Zahid Farooqui, Abdul Jabbar Gul, Mahmoud Kalari, Hossein Khosrojerdi, Emaan Mahmud, Ali Rahbar, Aqsa Shakil, Zolaykha Sherzad, Sheenkai Stanikzai, Amjad Ali Talpur, Rahim Walizada and Amer Youssof.
