March2011
The Art from the beginning of the
twentieth century until today

Viale Scarampo, Porta Teodorico – Milan
8 - 11 April
MILAN. ONE HUNDRED galleries, the top of International artists, one Hall and a four-day exhibition. After two years of excellent results, both: in terms of business and in presences , MiArt 2011 focuses even more on its excellent artistic system through a further selection of galleries to introduce on the market and to its public as an unique Art exhibition, which will host the most important italian galleries.

In programme from the 8th to the 11th of April 2011
(inauguration the 7th of April just by invitation and with an extraordinary opening day on Saturday until 9pm), MiArt 2011 will be concentrated in one Hall (pad. 3, fieramilanocity, viale Scarampo, Porta Teodorico), where the invited galleries will be placed by purpouse according to the historical, contemporary and ourdays scene for a better and more professional vision from the International artistic point of view.

"The excellent results of the last two editions, in which we have focused on quality, support the need to achieve a fair that is increasingly selective, in which only the most serious galleries, prestigious and authoritative ones are called to represent artists and works of the Italian and International production from the beginning of the twentieth century to today”. - Said Michele Perini, President of Fiera Milano SpA He adds: - “To determine the internationality of the event is the origin of the art galleries and its artists, that's why MiArt decided to give a clear characterization of the fair, hosting the best of Italian galleries that represent the best international artists”.

"The future of Miart” - said  the Councilor for Culture Massimiliano Finazzer Flory -  has entered into a new and different relationship between the IN and, between what happens AT the fair and the total involvement that surrounds  it: consistent and creative galleries, publishers, critics and artists of contemporary art in Milan. Miart  will be the ground between the contemporary art market and the cultural policies of this city, who in my opinion has as goal : the creation of a public Museum specialized in Contemporary Art. "

A will that the whole staff, the organizers of MiArt, the editors and the Advisory Committee have shared. For Gio Marconi:
"Milan is the Italian reference for the Art market.” MiArt therefore represents a very important meeting point for all stakeholders - gallery owners, collectors, artists, fans. The choice of making a show of excellence reserved for the best Italian galleries, make this occasion a showcase in the essential international trade fair calendar.

Even Giulio Tega, representing the modern sector of the Committee f-stop exposes:
"Regarding the issue Miart 2011, the committee's work in the field of Modern art has been directed mainly to a speech quality of the galleries and exhibitions that exhibits. So we expect an even more interesting  fair in comparision to the last years.

On the other hand, the international community of collectors ask each event a unique character, that is why the visit, which
makes it  unique, and therefore not replaceable.”

MiArt 2011 therefore has the ambition to become "the one" in fairs of excellence, first of all for the the Italian galleries: a
selection by no means provincial, because the galleries invited to participate have all its history and its international position: they attend the most important international fairs, match the Italian production of high quality and are recognized
from international artists. They work continuously with italian and international artists and curators for the excellence of its
production and exhibitions.

In addition, the excellence of MiArt 2011 is also an answer to the market still in crisis: the works of these prestigious
galleries proposing the most sophisticated and demanding collections.

2011 MiArt also wants to be a manifestation of high cultural value in the first instance, involving all the components of the system: the artists, the gallery owners, the collectors, curators, critics, museum directors, institutional bodies, specialized press and bookstores.

The objective is to offer a range of ideas and opinions for the next guidelines in art orientation, future research lines, and all this starting from the excellence that the current market has to offer.

With this direction, as in the 2010, it makes sense to underline the different figures of the different sections and its curators in charge : the exhibition catalog, the important talks and meetings, the lectures and the debates, with Italian and international personalities, will expose the destiny of art, thanks to the careful selection of the participating galleries.

The catalog is a real Art Book: edited by George Verzotti, contains the second essay aims to reconstruct the history of Italian art through the galleries. After the raid in the outcomes of neoavanguardia, the critical path examines the years, events, places : the first, between the wars (1918 - 1938) to the most recent which was started by the Transavanguardia .
In support of that, an unprecedented selection of photographs taken by Mimmo Jodice specifically for MiArt, with the eye of Gabriele Basilico and vision by Armin Linke, reading a 'romantic' Jodice, to explore a Milan to rediscover in its details and atmosphere.

This edition will be accompanied by MiArt Magazine, a gadget that starting with the project of the fair attempt forays into the complex variety of the art system: this year the two numbers that collect the suggestions mentioned by the number 100 and the Italian reality. 100 responses to images and text on Italy art, culture and development.

The program of conferences during the exhibition is controlled by Peep-Hole (Vincenzo de Bellis and Brown Roccasalva): a series of raids in the relationship between art and fashion, art and design, art and architecture and the realities of collecting, the museums and the non-profit.

Giacinto Di Pietrantonio and Kathy are still, respectively, the curators of modern and contemporary art-fairs: they must be the overall appearance of the event and coordinate the entire project. MiArt is the result of strong shared goals and strategies which, with different editors, the advisory committee responsible for the selection of the participating galleries, composed for the 2011 edition, by Marco Altavilla, Epicarmo Invernizzi, Gio Marconi, Francesca Minini , Mauro Nicoletti, Lorcan O'Neill, Mario Pieroni, Giulio Tega, the Honorary Committee, consisting of figures of great prestige in the world of art and culture of Italian and foreign: Flavio Albanian, Corrado Belda, Daniel Bosser, Pierluigi Cerri , Lieven DeClerk, Ernesto Esposito, Giorgio Fasol, Alessandro Mendini, Giovanni Puglisi, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.

Also a very special and original program for foreign collectors during their stay in Milan is organized such as guided tours, private meetings and also a special VIP Lounge is foreseen. In this direction once again ACACIA - Friends of Contemporary Art, alongside MiArt, call this special events dedicated to international guests in MiArt, which in 2011 reached its fifth edition. In particular, this initiative will provide the opportunity to visit private homes in Milan, members of some collectors, go to theater for the occasion, and see the selection of art works from the winner of ACACIA 2011.

And beside all this, a number of initiatives within and outside the fair, organized from public and private companies and associations responsible for the promotion of contemporary art will give an extraordinary animation: Brera Milans Rotary Club will sponsor for the third year, the Rotary Award for Contemporary Art and the young artists, which consist in choosing a work by an artist under 30, which will then be donated to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Like the last edition, the Award Jury will be constituted by Chiara Bertola, Laura Cherubini and Christian Marinotti.

Finally, the continuous collaboration between MiArt and NABA, “Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan”, which will give rise, on the evening of April 9th, "100 50", a great event curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio and Marco Scotini, where a large number of performances (100 in fact) of the last 50 years with documentaries and professional material will be organized.
