THE SHOW 4432 km presents three young artists, all originally from Dalarna, although they now study art somewhere else. The title reflects the distance between their present locations; Umeĺ, Wroclaw, and London.

Their fellow concern in this show is hovering around the void between here and there, as well as the ever present desire to seek. Does it make a difference, the fact that they have all left 'home' for the world outside - even though they've gone in quite different geographical directions? Which distance is the greatest? What are they seeking? Will they ever get home again? What is home? There will be no answers, but these subtle yet oh so big questions will be addressed in three different ways.

Jakob Westberg calls himself an intuitive artist; he lets the images evolve during the process. Dreamlike scenarios, tensions between human and nature, and tourism and the exotic, are all part of his practice. You will come across his small carved hunters as they scan the horizon from their silent position. Westberg is currently studying at the bachelor program at Umeĺ Art Academy, Sweden.

Hilda Lindströ
m is a versatile artist. She often re-uses material and changes medium in order to find the best way to express her ideas. Stencils are frequently used. An interest in people who choose unusual life styles can be deciphered; to resist following the crowd, and to follow one's desires despite misunderstandings and disbelief from others. Lindström is now doing her last year at the Art Academy in Wroclaw, Poland.

Nina Edling is interested in the lacking human, and how it feels like to experience overwhelm and to be confronted with the seemingly unmanageable. This interest often takes the form of large wood cuts with a combination of abstract shapes and human figures, although video is also becoming part of her practice. Edling is studying at the master program at Slade School of Fine Art, London, UK.

They are all part of the same generation and in the middle of their artistic education. They have also been trainees at the Print Workshop in Falun, Sweden, under the direction of Modhir Ahmed, although at separate times. A collaboration was initiated and this group show is the immediate result, where the focus is on the distance between individuals, and the search which ultimately follows, both in a positive/negative and a physical/psychological sense.
