AMMAN. On the evening of Saturday 27th November Nabad art Gallery in Amman, hosted a lecture by Rafa al Nasiri entitled: 50 Years between East and West, on the occasion of his one man show currently showing in the same gallery. Parallel to this activity and complementing it there was a book launching: Rafa al Nasiri: Painter of the Cosmic Scene by the poet and art critic May Muzaffar.

The lecture delivered by the artist contained a quick review to his artistic experience and its process throughout 50 years. Al Nasiri, studied basically in Baghdad (1959-1956) continued his academic training in Beijing, China (1959-1963), to follow up his training later on in Portugal, specializing in printmaking besides practicing painting.

The lecture, through a selection of slide projection, showed a selection of art works representing each stage and manifesting the development of the artist’s stylistic achievements starting from his early academic paintings up to the present abstract compositions.

The book entitled “Rafa al Nasiri: Painter of the Cosmic Scene”, through seven chapters and an Introduction, is an aesthetic analysis of the artist’s long life experience. The chapters reveal a detailed look into Al Nasiri’s artworks and specify the development of each stage by detecting the main turning points in the artist’s style and the  motivation behind each experience. It is the result of the joint life of the author with the artist as husband and wife.
