Albareh Gallery paricipates in ArtDubai for the forth time
Dubai
17 March 2010
ALBAREH GALLERY has represented Bahrain in numerous art fairs in the UAE. This spring was the forth time in ArtDubai. “I will definitely return for the fifth edition next year,” said Hayfa Al Jishi, the gallery’s chief curator, as she gestured at the numerous people walking in and out of Albareh’s booth.
For Hayfa, curating today is mediating more than just upholding an institutional mandate or being a purveyor of taste. Looking at the diverse strategies she has done over the years, she has worked with artists as a facilitator and collaborator, commissioning new work, re-presenting significant and historical art and creating exhibitions that highlight the fluidity of contemporary art practice.
Asked how the market is, she replied, “Connoisseurs among the collectors are still buying at the moment because they are able to acquire top-level works more easily. The actual situation leads serious collectors to artworks that are more about substance and thus strengthens the trend toward modern/post modern art. Now, artists’ and artworks undergo historical reevaluation as speculatively sold art strongly declines, and Albareh took action on critical issues as such and offers significant art.”
