About Art Paris
June 2011

artparis 2012 to be held at the Grand Palais from 28 March to 1 April 2012, promises to remain true to its commitment to innovation, introducing a new fair director, a fresh focus and new organizational strategy. Artparis intends to build on the success of the 2011 edition which attracted 48,000 visitors and recorded an impressive volume of sales among its 125 exhibitors.
PARIS. Created in 1999 to support French galleries and their artists, artparis is reasserting this vocation while adapting to the new rules of the international art market and current trends among collectors. As part of its strategy to strengthen and reshape its identity, artparis, under its new leadership, is prioritizing the quality of the fair’s content by encouraging the presentation of exclusive art projects by participating galleries.
Lorenzo Rudolf, who was appointed art director of artparis two years ago by its owner Luxrule, is now being asked to focus on the
developments of Art Stage Singapore, launched in January 2011. A new team is now in place, chosen by Julien Lecêtre, General Manager of artparis, who has just appointed Guillaume Piens Fair Director, who is now responsible for the fair’s strategy as well as being its artistic director. Valentine Lecêtre is in charge of exhibitor relations while Catherine Vauselle is in charge of communications and partnerships.
“I am delighted to begin this collaboration with Guillaume Piens, who will bring his expertise in the field of contemporary art and large-scale artistic events to artparis. Given the significant improvements that we wish to make to artparis, in spite of the success that the show achieved this year, the new art director will draw both on his capacity for innovation and his knowledge of the French and international cultural context”, says Julien Lecêtre, who, over the past ten years, has managed the organization and marketing of several general shows, before taking the reins of artparis in 2010.
For Guillaume Piens, who was previously the fair manager and art director of Paris Photo from 2008 to 2011, and also worked on the Fiac from 2000 to 2006, “this new stage is a logical development in my career path in the field of contemporary art. I am happy to contribute to the development of artparis. With a clearly defined artistic positioning, a new organization, motivated galleries, and high-quality content, artparis will be able to claim its rightful place among the major artistic events in Europe”.
He will work in close cooperation with Catherine Vauselle, who was director of communications and partnerships at Reed Expositions France, particularly for the Fiac, the “Salon du Livre” (Paris book fair), and Paris Photo. She joins Valentine Lecêtre, who directed the specialized fair Kara for seven years.
Guillaume Piens intends to implement a program that will strengthen the role and scope of artparis among galleries, collectors, and institutions, by giving the show new direction and impetus that will make it a central event on the European art market.
ArtParis will return to the Grand Palais for its 14th edition, from 28 March to 1April 2012.
