Broomhill Art & Sculpture Foundation

BROOMHILL LIES in one of the most glorious valleys in North Devon surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodland and bound by its own stream. The Broomhill Sculpture Park displays one of the largest permanent collections of contemporary art and sculpture in the South West. 300 sculptures by over 60 sculptors are sited in 10 acres of garden that present a wonderful balance between art and nature.

The woodland gardens provide all year round interest and are home to numerous birds and insects.  The gardens are full of colour in the Summer, Autumn and are particularly beautiful in the Spring, with successions of Spring flowers including Snowdrops, Daffodils, Primroses, Bluebells and Azaleas.

The award winning Broomhill Kitchen is based around the ‘Slow food’ philosophy, where respect for authentic produce and local ingredients is paramount to our offering - pure celebration on a plate. Consisting of mainly Mediterranean cuisine using fresh, organic, fair trade produce from neighbouring farms and the coast, the menu affords splendid choice and excellent value.  Group lunches and cream teas are available, served in our intimate restaurant or outside on the sun-warmed terrace.

If you fancy making an all-day trip to the area, the stunning Marwood Hill Gardens is only 10 minutes away from Broomhill.

Broomhill National Sculpture Prize
2011 Exhibition

DEVON. BROOMHILL ART and Sculpture Foundation announced the ten short-listed, emerging sculptors vying for the annual 'Broomhill National Sculpture Prize' with an annual prize fund of £15,000 in 2009 to provide an exciting challenge for new and emerging UK based sculptors.

Selected by a judging panel comprising internationally acclaimed artists Tim Shaw, Rob Ryan and Carol Peace, the ten short-listed, emerging sculptors will be unveiling their sculptures to the public at an outdoor exhibition in a bid to win the 2011 title. The exhibition opens at Broomhill Sculpture Park (North Devon, nr Barnstaple) on 1 June and will run into 2012.

“Selecting the final Ten was a difficult task, the judges have quite different backgrounds / tastes and the proposed ideas were so varied.  Our final Ten sculptors were selected for their strong concepts, clarity of proposal, potential expressive nature of the final piece, plus their ability and creativity demonstrated in past works. Many of the ideas are extremely adventurous in respect to size and materials so there will be challenges and risks ahead for the finalists, but they are dedicated and we are supporting them all the way. We’re confident that this Exhibition will be inspiring, not to mention full of surprises!”
Rinus van de Sande (owner of Broomhill)

This new, annual event is a distinctive addition to the national art calendar, not only as it promotes contemporary sculpture, but as a unique twist, the public are given the vote to select their favourite. Visitors should be prepared to have their art critic hat on this Summer as Broomhill will be asking them to choose a winner! Two overall winners (to receive cash prizes) will be announced in October 2011, one chosen by the panel of judges and the other by the public.

The public can stay up-to-date with the Ten finalists progress by visiting the official Sculptor’s Blogs at www.broomhillart.co.uk. These blogs provide a regular insight into each of the finalists development in the run up to the main exhibition in June.
