AAYAAT, a calligraphy exhibition organised by Swiss Art Gate UAE during the Holy month of Ramadan in Park Hyatt Dubai at the Creek Ballroom foyer featured the highly acclaimed Narjes Noureddine, Emirati artist, Husam Ahmed, Egyptian calligrapher, and Pakistani artist, Khaled Mahmoud Nafeesi.

A workshop in conjunction with the exhibtion was held once week with Narjes Noureddine in the exhibition hall.
Narjes Noureddine
Narjes Noureddine was born in Abu Dhabi in 1975, and graduated with a Diploma in Financial Studies. She worked in the banking sector until 2006, when she devoted herself to the art of Arabic Calligraphy.

She enrolled in Sharjah Institute for Arabic Calligraphy in 2000, and then continued her studies at Calligraphers' Studios, where she trained with Khaled Al Saai - a well renowned calligraphy artist.

Noureddine travelled to Istanbul in 2006 to develop her skills of the Thuluth style. She was privileged to study with such well established artists as Hassan Chalabi and Dawood Baktash. In 2007, Noureddine expanded her understanding of the Nastalig (Farsi) style by travelling to Tehran. Yet again, she was fortunate to study with Abbas Akhawain, a well established calligraphy artist.

Noureddine has participated in many local and international exhibitions since 2001, and was awarded an International Prize in the Mir Imad International Calligraphy Competition in the Jali Al Diwani style in 2004, organized by IRCICA - Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture, Istanbul, Turkey.


Husam Ahmed
The Egyptian calligrapher, Husam Ahmed Abdul Wahab was born in 1972 and graduated from Muhammad Ibrahim School of Calligraphy in Alexandria in 1998, and then studied interior design at the Higher Institute of Art in Alexandria. He has participated in many international visual arts exhibitions such as Germany, Spain, Austria, Denmark and Turkey. Husam was awarded with the third prize in the 8th Al Burda Calligraphy Competition in Contemporary Style.


Khaled Mahmoud Nafeesi
Pakistani calligrapher, Hafiz Khalid Nafeesi, joined the Al Madina University in Lahore, Pakistan, and graduated with a degree in Islamic Law, Sharia'a Al Islamia. He taught at the same university for two years. Since this time Hafiz knows the complete Holy Qura'an by heart.

Hafiz Nafeesi also studied Arabic Calligraphy with well renowned calligraphers Abd Al Salam Yousifi and Rashid Qamar. In addition, he spent another five years studying with Syed Nafis Al Husaini.

Hafiz joined Sharjah Center for Calligraphy and Ornament to learn Al Lafith Al Jalalh. Following this he took part in a competition, which was organized by the Islamic Museum of Al Shaikh Ab Al Qadir Al Kilany in Lahore, Pakistan in 2007. As a participant in the Islamabad exhibition, the IRCICA competition - Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture, Istanbul, Turkey - and Sharjah Islamic Arts Festivals, Khaled has lately received the Promising Calligrapher award in Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival - 2010.
