PARIS. Attendance increased from 48,379 visitors in 2007 to 76,932 in 2010, showing how public interest in photography is growing. The event is designed for both professional and amateur photographers and the general public, who all think of the Salon de la Photo as THEIR unmissable annual event, where over 100 exhibitors, manufacturers and importers welcome them and show off their latest products and services, from image capture to printing and sharing processes. Video features on cameras are now further contributing to the expanding world of photography.

2011 is also the fourth year of specially designed posters for the Salon de la Photo, an initiative launched in 2008. This year’s poster has been created by photographer Chrisma Lan, who began her career working for the press, theatre, dance and cinema. After living in Berlin, her stay in London and New York, she moved to Paris where a meeting with Helmut Newton and Nick Knight led her to turn to fashion and focuses on personal projects combining performance and installations.

2011 is also the second edition of ZOOMS, two prizes awarded to emerging professional photographers, one by the photography press and one by the general public. Last year, 22,232 people voted on line. The Salon de la Photo will organize an exhibition of each winning photographer’s work.

2011 marks the fifth edition of the Grandes Rencontres (symposiums with famous photographers), which have become one of the star attractions of the Salon de la Photo. Every year a dozen famous guest photographers talk to photography lovers about their work.
