MANAMA. ARTBAHRAIN IS pleased to announce its participation in the third edition of Beirut Art Fair, to be held from 5 - 8 July, at the
Beirut International Exhibition & Leisure Center (BIEL). The venue will host individual gallery booths plus several exhibitions of street
art, VJing, comics, video, sculpture and installations.
As one of the forty international exhibitors, artBahrain will present work by Bahrain’s leading artist, Rashid Al Khalifa, (b.1952, Bahrain)
a connoisseur of beauty and a painter of masterful landscapes and figures made his big public breakthrough in his solo exhibition
presenting a suite of ‘convex’ paintings entitled, “Convex: A new perspective” at Bahrain National Museum in the spring of 2010. He is
regarded as a significant representative of a generation of Bahraini artist who has forged a reputation for creating an intense
connection between form and material with the classical treatment of abstraction in a Minimalist vocabulary. He made his first
painting at the age of 16 and actively participated in interscholastic art exhibitions in Bahrain and moved to England to study Art and
Design at Brighton and Hastings Art College (1972-1976).
Following Rashid’s first solo exhibition at the Dilmun Hotel Bahrain (1970), are solo exhibitions at the Middle East Institute,
Washington, D.C. USA and the Sheraton Hotel Bahrain (1982), De Caliet Gallery and El Kato Kayyel Gallery both in Milan, Italy (1996),
Art Department, Shuman Arts Organization Jordan (1997), Convex: A New Perspective, Bahrain National Museum, Kingdom of
Bahrain (2010), Reflection: New Work by Rashid Al Khalifa, BFH Fine Arts Gallery (2012)
He has also participated in a number of regional and international exhibitions including the Exhibition for Bahraini Artists, Leighton
House, London, UK (1984), Le Salon des Artists Francais, Grand Palais, Paris (1984), The Cairo Biannual Art Exhibition, Cairo, Egypt
(1985), the First GCC Art Exhibition, Japan (1986), Made in Bahrain, London, UK (1992), the Sharjah Biennale, Sharjah, UAE (1996,
1999), Art America, Miami, USA (1997), The UN Centre, Switzerland (1999), UNESCO (2007) and Our Bahrain, World Economic
Forum, Davos, Switzerland (2007).
Rashid co-founded the Bahrain Art Society in 1975 and at present is the honorary president. He is an avid art collector and continues
to be patron of the arts supporting the development of the arts in Bahrain.
