38th Annual Fine Arts Exhibition
MANAMA. This year's 38th Annual Artists Exhibition opened on 10 January at the Bahrain National Museum under the patronage of His Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Bahraini artist Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa headed of the jury committee namely Mr. James Koch from the Beyeler Foundation, Mr. Georges Ranunkel, Mr. Geoffroy De Farncony from Modern Art Exhibition in Paris and Mrs. Salwa Al Moqdadi, director of the Culture & Art Program from the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy.
The grand prix was awarded by his highness to Bahraini artist Maryam Janahi who is currently on holiday in the kingdom. Maryam heads back to Berlin this spring where she is studying fine arts.
Her winning piece is a self portrait drilling the neck of a minotaur.
Marwa Al Khalifa whose winning entry is a cargo box with a "fragile handle with care' stamp is another newbie in the art scene.

New to the competition is school teacher Fareed Buqais also received a recognition award. This is the third consecutive year for Hadeer Al Baqaly to receive an award and the second time around for Adel Abbasi.
