About Jabbar Algadban
A fine arts graduate at the Damascus University, Syria in1981, he was not born painting in the style with which he is now associated with. Jabbar rejected the Impressionism he had initially embraced for a precise, stylised manner and dedicated himself to folklore – portraying and decorating the lives of Arab women.
The female figure, Jabbar’s ‘now’ celebrated icon, is itself a kind of allegory of art.
They suggest a powerful psychological undertow – a veneer of social realism. The
deceptively simple, semi-abstracted, doe-eyed women with long necks that are a little
too stiff – derive their power from the liberties that Jabbar has taken within the schema
of representation, and not from saving the human face as directly seen. In fact, Jabbar’s
temptation by allegory and his urge to make his extroverted icons’ secret dramatic narratives is the powerful modernist element in his otherwise regionalist art.
The simplified graphically conceived framed and firmly outlined objects in a Crayola-
bright palette are qualities that are quickly recognisable in all of his work.

Bahraini artist Jabbar Alghadban certainly knows how to capture an audience with his paintings of beautiful women. Jabbar's women are melancholic and mysterious with a powerful physical intensity and a subtleness of form which almost makes you want to hold them.
The graceful lines express feelings, memories and deep emotion by means of the positions and expressions of the figures. His paintings are about feelings and states of mood, about dreams and expectations. In every work he tries to capture part of the mystery of the female personality by combining the beauty of the physical with the intensity of the mental. His contemporary style to pose, composition and colour produces paintings that are modern, vibrant and uniquely individual.
