Noon by Noor is a ready-to-wear fashion label based in Bahrain, founded by Shaikha Noor Al Khalifa and her cousin Shaikha Haya Al Khalifa. Elegantly combining influences from their Bahraini homeland with international styles, the dynamic duo creates a captivating balance between the traditional and modern—making fascinating fashions that capture and enhance a woman’s femininity in luxurious fabrics.

Curious about their development, Art Bahrain contributing editor Paul Laster recently caught up with the busy collaborators to discuss their design concepts and to learn more about their soon-to-be-released Fall/Winter collection.

When did you first become interested in fashion?

Ever since we were children, we have always been interested in fashion. We find it a wonderful way to express our creativity and artistic ideas.

Did you study fashion design or did it just come naturally?

Although designing came naturally for us, we went to school for fashion design at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. We wanted to learn the proper technique and study the history of fashion from those who had experience in the industry.

What motivated you to create your own fashion line?

We both wanted to create something that was unique and different. By combining both of our styles together, we were able to design a collection that was chic, refined, and true to our Bahraini roots.

Who are the main players in Noon by Noor?

The main players of Noon by Noor are Noor Al Khalifa and Haya Al Khalifa. We are cousins, best friends, and business partners.

What’s the company mission?

Noon by Noor is a high-end, ready-to-wear fashion label that caters to women who have an eye for elegance and chic design. We aim to dress confident women who dare to be different.

When did you launch your first collection?

The first official collection for Noon by Noor will soon be released for the upcoming Fall/Winter 2011-12 season.

Are you making clothes for both men and women?

As of now, we design clothes for women only. However, in the future, we are definitely open to the idea of expanding our company and designing for men.

How would you describe your style?

Our line is modern but very much influenced by our Bahraini roots. We draw inspiration from both the Middle East’s vibrant culture and the Western world’s forward-thinking style. Our collection is modern with a little Arabian spice.

What role does the choice of fabrics play?

Fabric choice is extremely important for us. We search all over the world for the highest quality of fabric. In our current collection, we used a variety of beautiful silks, satins, soft jerseys, and intricate beads from countries, such as the United Kingdom, Italy, and France.

How important is tailoring?

Tailoring is also very important to us in order to achieve garments with excellent quality. Our hands are always on the garments checking to make sure the fit is right, the stitches are correct, and all the decorative details are properly attached.

How would you describe the woman that you’re dressing?

We design for the woman that is fashion forward, elegant, and open to new ideas.

Which celebrities do you see yourself designing for?

Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, and Blake Lively would look wonderful in the designs of Noon by Noor. We admire their ability to always stun the world with the latest up-to-the-minute fashion trends.

How can the right fashion style change a person’s life?

One of the most important things to dressing “right” is being comfortable. Our Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection is elegant, luxurious, and eye-catching; but it’s still incredibly comfortable to wear. When a woman is comfortable, she is able to express herself effortlessly and confidently.

Do you have a favorite fashion designer?

We love them all! Every fashion designer is exceptional in his or her own way!

Do you look to art, magazines, music, and movies for inspiration?

Yes, most definitely. We always make sure to stay up with the latest news, music, and magazines. These outlets create inspiration for designs and also help us know exactly what’s going on in the world.

Do you have a favorite artist?

Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa is one of our favorite artists and biggest inspirations. He has always encouraged us to nurture our love for the arts and share our projects with the world.

What can you reveal about the Noon by Noor Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection?

The Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection is all about luxurious fabrics catering to the fashion forward global chic woman who has an eye for exquisiteness.
