SCULPTURE PLATFORM INDIA (SPI)
A new international project within  GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP®
December
December 2011
MOVING FROM its existing activities in worldwide stone laboratories, GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP® now builds its own workshop in India.

The aim is to organize a full professional stone sculpting workshop and related services to give artists from India and from around the world a place where to gather, meet and fulfill own projects under shorter or longer periods of time. This will be a platform which combines artistic creativity with the ancient knowledge of Indian craftsmen's wide ranging skills.

Therefore, GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP® is expanding from sculpture in stone to bronze, to wood and textiles.

The model is the Swedish Artist's Collective Workshops. Their underlying mission of providing affordable professional workspaces and equipment for artists has inspired the GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP®  initiative

"SCULPTURE PLATFORM INDIA®" will be a Not-for-Profit Organisation. Funding is based on Scandinavian and Indian forces and initiatives.

Global Stone Workshop® is an organisation that works with like-minded in six different countries. We have 16 years of experience in workshops with over 500 participants, and we communicate and collaborate through six world languages, across different cultures.

As the founder of GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP®  I seek to establish contact with like minded artists to share our vision. The challenge is to build something which has not previously existed, and in ways that combine Swedish co-operative organisational skills with Indian craftsmanship and inter-cultural influences. A cross-border exchange that will develop into an interesting activity benefiting both visiting artists and the local community.

We aim to work in a visionary manner towards a common goal sharing the resources we create and the conditions are the same for everyone, myself included.

We are organizing 4 workshops in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, starting on December 2011. This is our second sculpting season. Last year we had 24 participants to our 3 workshops.

Our Partners in Sweden are Mrs. Anna Löwdin, painter and sculptor, Mr. Sergio Perea, sculptor; Mrs Sarita Sundar, Trapeze, Mr. T. Baskaran, B. Sc, in India.
